Summary | 0005575: Place platforms on some background objects.
Description | This is another polish thing, and I don't know if you want to do it. But I keep on finding that I expect to be able to jump on certain background objects. For example, the water tower looks like it should have parts that you can stand on. Certain house models as well; even cabinets maybe. I think this is would be a big contribution to the game: - Enemies that end up on background objects can be knocked down when you destroy said objects. This would mean that destroying background objects would have a purpose. - It would make the background objects feel much more like a part of the game. Jump on a water town and you gain some fleeting protection from your enemies. - It's traditional in sidescrollers to have elements of background objects that you can interact with, usually by standing on them. In Metal Slug, for example, you can jump onto some window ledges and walk along them. Initially I also thought that some objects should block your/monsters' paths. A cabinet could protect you against monsters or get in your way, similar to the way crates do. But this part is optional as it may introduce unexpected consequences.

Yeah, this is something I've really wanted to do with the roofs of some of the houses in particular, but it wasn't something the engine supported until recently with the addition of the multi-part entities. Now it's definitely possible, and not all that hard all things considered. For things like cabinets, I think that would get confusing, but you can use the seize spell to much the same effect (but player directed rather than arbitrary). |
I don't think cabinets and such should block your path entirely because interiors are enclosed enough without knee-high obstructions to get in your way every couple of meters. |
Top-solid only should do the trick. |
That's... quite a good point! Enemies can't get on top-solid objects by the by, but it would be pretty neat for players. |
