Summary | 0005426: New "type" of settler NPCs: Entourage
Description | I've been thinking about this for a while, and came up with a solution that I found to be workable (at least to myself). Right now, there is no real progression from one continent to the other; in fact, with the coming update it seems the only real difference from moving to a new continent and starting a whole new world will be that A) you can carry resources with you (I think? or are those continent-specific?) and B) the unlocked resources stay unlocked between continents. Other than that, anything you accomplish on one continent becomes "undone" when you move to the next. In order to bring some more progression into it, I suggest that whenever you rescue an NPC, that NPC has a small chance of joining your entourage (5-10%). The only thing that would do is that the NPC in question would become available in all settlements, essentially joining you on your quest to rid Environ from baddies. Properly tweaked, I would personally think a goal of 1-2 NPCs per continent joining you would be suitable (of course, depending on what role NPCs play in the future). I don't see NPCs being able to be forced into the entourage though; that could likely create problems (plus, some people have to stay behind and rebuild civilisation, right?).

Very cool idea on the entourage, I like that a lot. ---------- On a tangent: In terms of the resources, those actually DON'T carry forward as they stay with the old continent. Benefits of moving to a second continent instead of starting a new world include: 1. Any non-magical artifacts such as traps, wood platforms, vitality stones, etc, can be carried between continents. 2. Any crests or other "elite loot" that you find can be carried between continents. 3. There is actually new stuff on the further continents that you can't get access to on the first continent in any world -- new region types, etc. 4. Any unlocks (from the upcoming release, not referring to learned spells) that you accomplished while on the first continent don't have to be redone on the second continent. And progress on to partly-completed unlocks is global to the world, of course. All that said, we want to also look into other ways to make it so that your great works from the first continent carry forward in a way that is both satisfying and balanced. We have some more pipe to lay before we can fully evaluate how to best do that, but I think that something along the lines of your idea there is what is needed, yeah. |
