Summary | 0005035: Spell: Time Crash
Description | Thoughts are about applying the breaks to this wibbly-wobbly (timey-whimey) world, causing monsters (et al) to all-but freeze in place for a limited time. The sheer amount of effort to do this causes damage to everything in the local chunk as reality fights against magic to continue ticking along! Summary: * Used as an escape spell (but not to venture into rare scroll territory - can't remember it's name!) * Approx 8 second duration, long cooldown to prevent spamming * Causes a damage over time effect to everything in the local chunk (monsters, background, PC, fire breath etc) - nothing excessive, but not going to do anything significant to the locals * Doesn't totally freeze the monsters (or breath etc), but reduces it to 10% (?) speed for the duration * Effects enemy magic also (Skelebot sniper shots etc) - not sure if possible * Player speed unaffected * Expensive - thinking 2 gems plus magma, or a gem plus magma plus umbra

Not sure it needs to do damage over time AND slow the enemies to a crawl AND reduce the speed of their shots. In fact, the damage over time element seems a little incongruous with an otherwise fantastic logistical spell. |
The DoT effect I meant for the PC as well as the NPC as an extra deterrent to spamming it, and thematically I thought it fit with time trying to not rip itself apart. Though re-reading it, if it had a long (dysparia?) cooldown anyway that would help be an anti-spam effect in itself. |
Ah yes, I glanced over that point. I kinda see it, thematically, but I'm still inclined towards it being better all round with just all the slowing and, as you say, the long cool down (5 minutes or something?). |
5mins could be a little harsh for a colour based cooldown - I rely heavily on Death Touch and Creeping Death for example and wouldn't want to sacrifice them for that long! (Though saying that, there's perfect anti-spam incentive) |
Ah yes, the colour cool downs. I'm sure Arcen'll figure the balance out! :-) |
I think it would work best without the damage over time affect. Maybe have the long cooldown be set to logistical spells? That would allow attack spells to continue but not anything else. It would have to be ridiculously expensive mana wise too. Perhaps with a mana cost that is higher than you can spawn with so you are required to have spent some upgrade stones to cast this. |
Although colour-based cool downs have been long-gone, I still think as a defensive spell it could work after some refinement. |
