Summary | 0004963: Suggestion/Idea: Upgraded shrink spell for infinite exploration!
Description | I was thinking: What if we had a spell that could shrink you down and let you 'enter' a piece of furniture or any other background object. You could then enter a deeper, randomly-generated dungeon within that one. This could allow for more unusual and exotic environments. Also, depending on how loot is generated for it, it could allow a player to skew item stashes towards what they're looking for. A player wanting more sapphire dust could enter a sapphire deposit and explore it before breaking it. If you wanted to extend this idea to a nearly-absurd level, entering an item could bring you into a new world map within the item, instead of a dungeon. This system could solve the occasional scarcity of certain zone types in some level ranges. A player could create a world of just-desert by entering an object in a desert zone. Exiting an object could be its own challenge too, requiring some quest/boss/special action. The world's already shattered in time. Why not shatter it in scale too?

I see you've been exposed to "Inside a Star-Filled Sky". It's an interesting concept but I don't think I'd like it in AVWW. |
|
Super mario bros 2 did it too :) It would really be just extra depth for people who like that sort of thing. It does give the devs the opportunity to experiment with exceptionally hard or unusual zones, as these areas would be purely optional. Besides, think of the elegance of using this as a solution to the loot-storage problem! You could bring a bucket back to town, and fill it to your heart's content! If in a somewhat unusual manner... |

Ha, yeah, my first thought was also Inside a Star-Filled Sky. Although somewhat it's reminiscent of the the Minnish Cap, too. I think it could be an interesting idea to explore in a more limited fashion at some point in the future, but this seems like something for post-1.0 to me. |

An expansion including contraction; wonderfully apropos. |

Hahha, that's a really funny thought, but yeah. And good call on the Mario 2 vases, etc -- always a favorite element of mine from that game, too. I think this would be really fun to do, it just feels more like an expansion idea rather than a base game idea, simply because it adds so much complexity to what the player has to understand and think about (new players, I mean). That's fine for an expansion, or even later in the main game, but something I like to phase in more gradually for new players in particular. |
