Summary0000481: Research Hub (or some other good name; I've never been good with names)
DescriptionIn short, the very last place to go for research. Generates research very slowly at a high cost.

Research rate: 1 per second (or 1 per 2 seconds, if that's possible)
Cost: 200k metal and crystal, 50000 energy, as well as a running cost of 120 metal and crystal per 1 knowledge (so 120 or 60 per second). The running cost is based on the Science Lab Mk. III, which costs 90k metal (i.e. 30 metal per research).
Limit: 1

This would come into place in those situations where you simply cannot knowledge-raid anywhere and your AI progress doesn't allow you to take any more planets. The knowledge generated would be taken from a random planet that hasn't yet reached the 3000 knowledge limit, whether or not it's in supply.

But... the situation you describe is one in which you're supposed to have to dig yourself out of by making a desperate gambit: which either kills you, or lifts you up in a blaze of glory. ;)

That's the whole point of the back-and-forth with AI Progress, and it's definitely possible to back yourself into a corner with that.
