Summary | 0000047: 3.189 hybrid followers ignore engine damage
Description | http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,7071.0.html If you do damage to hybrid's follower's engines, they ignore it. Magically. Yes, a coordinator ship (like a Hybrid) actually provides the motive power for its coordinated ships, which is why they travel neither slower nor faster than the parent ship. Functionally, this saves a metric ton of drone-selection and speed synchronization code that would never work just right. It also makes it harder to base a defense on mostly spider turrets and Riots. Good find Yea, that kind of interference should work. Thematically speaking you can shoot the engines off a coordinated bomber and it doesn't matter; they weren't driving the ship anyway. Unless you then kill the parent ship, in which case that bomber is up a creek. But stick the thing in a gravity well and it doesn't much matter what's moving it. Anyway, note to myself: 1) Have the mouseover text of a coordinated ship note that it's not actually speed boost, but that it's movement is being provided externally and thus engine damage is less relevant. 2) Have coordinated ships draw with the "group move" border since that's a pretty good analog, and also helps the player distinguish between them and non-coordinated ships. 3) Have engine-damage-focused units sort coordinated ships after non-coordinated ships in their autotargeting logic, for the above reason.

Keith, this was fixed, yes? |
|
No, actually; I fixed the "loose coordination" ships having this immunity, but the hybrids still have it and I've yet to fix the fact that it really doesn't tell the player about it nor does it honor grav fields (though it should already honor them if the hybrid itself is grav'd). |

Ah, ok. |
|
Not a priority for now. |
