Summary0004630: Rampaging vengeful ghosts appear after every character death
DescriptionEvery time I die the game spawns a new squad of vengeful ghosts even though it already spawned one the last time I died. I'm pretty sure I defeated the ghosts of the characters it's drawing from, too.

I may have seen this as well. I /think/ I've killed some ghosts more than once, but I'm not sure enough to post a bug report without it happening again.

I've had the same thing, but after a few deaths, they stopped coming.

Hmm, ok, I'll try to reproduce this. It was fixed once before, but it may be a more subtle bug (defeated ghosts coming back to death).

Ok, I've tried:

1) New world.
2) Die 4 times. (rampaging unit only spawned on last death)
3) Die again. (no rampaging unit spawned)
4) Kill the first rampaging unit.
5) Die 3 more times. (rampaging unit only spawned on last death)
6) Kill the second rampaging unit.
7) Save and quit the application, then reload the game.
8) Die 4 more times. (rampaging unit only spawned on last death)

So I'm gonna need a saved world where this reproduces :)

This just happened to me twice. The last 3 deaths all generated wandering ghosts. The save is 6 megs, and I can't upload it, should I email it to you?

I had it happen too, I was adventuring in too high of levels and died twice in a row, now both of them formed rampaging monster groups. It happened in my massive world though.

Hm, strange, this seems different from when it happened in the alpha. Both groups have 4 ghosts in them even though I only died once after the first group formed.

Yeah, this is definitely happening on my world. I'm going to send you my world file Keith, all you have to do is die and then a group will spawn. Die again and another group of 4 will spawn. I don't know where the other 3 members for these groups are coming from.

EDIT: Alright so my file is to big for gmail's attachment limit, I'll figure out some other way to get it to you.

I had this happen prior to 0.517, but have not seen it since, though I deleted my world and started a new one after a lot of the major mechanics overhauls. I have not seen it since, but I also don't have a backlog of corpses anymore.

Ok, I think I know what happened: in a recent version there was a massive change of how stats scale, etc, and to patch up things from old versions it healed everything in the world back to full. So all those dead ghosts came back to death.

Haven't confirmed/fixed this, but I think that's what's going on.

For 0.522:

* In a recent version all destroyed ghosts were accidentally "brought back to (active) death", leading to many players encountering a situation where every time they died it would have a large pool of those other ghosts not currently rampaging to go rampaging with. The nature of the bug is such that it won't recur, but there are still worlds out there with a significant overpopulation of "free"/"threat" ghosts so:
** When loading any world older than this version, all ghosts not currently in a rampaging group will be quietly put back into really-dead status. They may be back someday.
