This is actually more or less intended. Open to feedback, though.

This is pretty much how it's always worked. In the past, the cost stayed the same and your magic capacity grew, for the same overall effect. If you upgrade it, you get to jump further. The damage decrease in offensive spells is to counter the lack of increase in monster health when you go up in levels, which keeps the overall behaviour pretty similar to what it was before.

In other words, the behaviour is the same (except for the occasional unfortunate bug), but the numbers are different. Does that make sense?

I like the way it works now. I think we should leave this as is.

That's my thought, too -- with the exception of needing to make you have touched down before being able to use it serially, but that's another topic.

I don't think I'd want to see RtL scale in such a way that using lower levels only makes you jump a few inches. That just becomes a drag. You want to be getting higher tier items because they make you feel more powerful, not because the old tier has been nerfed into uselessness. I'd almost say damage spells and 'utility' spells should be split off entirely into different categories with their own rules, except RtL and Teleport are the only utility spells I can think of. Well, maybe shrink too.

Edit: In response to above (off topic in a mantis post, hooray!) any chance of that check for ground contact coming eventually? That would allow you to remove the cooldown, which is unintuitive for a movement ability in the first place.

Currently, there's no real incentive to upgrade RtL. It just gets much cheaper to use. There might be some benefit in scaling the jump height back gradually, but I really don't want to have to upgrade every couple of tiers to prevent it becoming useless -- it's a utility, not a weapon.

That said, it might be a problem to just keep scaling it up indefinitely. Eventually you'll be crafting vacuum suits so you can make interplanetary voyages in between managing the rhino population.

I'm actually fine with RtL scaling up to the point of space exploration at the really high tiers. That's the incentive for ever upgrading it -- but certainly it's best to upgrade this on a delay, if nothing else.

My main point would be that, for example at tier 7 I can already jump a huge distance, indeed I am just about able to jump again without touching the ground, I "should" be using tier 10 spells, but there is no impetus for me to upgrade it, as I would gain little for a considerably higher mana cost (however minimal that might actually be).

I would argue, given earlier assertions about RtL being the "terrible" double-jump option that it should simply always cost the same.

... and now that I have that in writing, I'll be expecting lunar colonies to start showing up in the next couple of weeks and eventually a gigantic scheme to merge AVWW into AI War. \o/

I don't really care enough to comment.

(Or DO I?)
