Summary | 0004496: NPC's at wind shelters don't show on strategic map
Description | When you build wind shelter from strategic map NPC's there will not appear as valid for rescuing. You need to personally go to that wind shelter and "see" them in the chunk - then they appear as valid for rescue.

This is working as intended, actually. Whether it stays that way, dunno. |
Should probably at least mark the shelter as unvisited then, it's easy to lose track of which ones you've already tagged for rescue and emptied out and which ones are untouched. |
I find this strange still. Whats the reason behind this behavior? It seems silly to force player to go to every wind shelter site by hand to check if there are npc's there or not and "enumerate" them for rescue. This also makes building shelters by NPC kind of confusing since there is no way to say from map if shelter was built by you (and any NPC's present are already rescued) or shelter was built by your NPC and it can potentially contain people but you need to go there to check on foot. |
I think NPCs building a wind shelter would probably have to do some paperwork when they get home (for the road-building crew, at least) and it seems a bit silly not to note "oh, and I saw three windswept refugees while I was there -- there complained about the overlord a lot" at the bottom of their report. |
One part of the confusion is that the game currently doesn't mention that these various strategy-map actions don't involve your NPCs leaving your settlement at all, they're more in the nature of "overland spells". You and the guardian provide the power/focus/etc, the NPC spends the actual time. Anyway, there are some technical reasons why the NPCs cannot be rescued before you've been to their chunk. In essence, they don't exist before you've been there. Hopefully something can change about some aspect(s) of the whole situation that will make things make a bit more sense in relation to all this, but for now this is how it is. |
So basically NPC in settlement would sit and concentrate while guardian and player provide power. Then I guess we would only need to have a marker on map stating that certain wind shelter was visited or not. As for roads... having them built like a spell is.. tricky business. Would feel much more concrete if they would be actually built by NPC's (with help and protection of guardian). |
Ah, that makes sense. +1 on marking them as unvisited somehow, then. |
