Summary | 0004338: Guardian stone healing sometimes takes a while to trigger.
Description | I'm a little puzzled by this one, but when I have the snowsuit on a non-Ice Age character the guardian stone usually doesn't heal me. Not always, though, if I run past a few times it'll work eventually. I still get the dialogue message, "I have restored your health and mana, it was the least I could do", but I don't get the sound or animation that usually goes with healing when that happens. If I take the suit off, it works normally. I had thought that it might be ignoring me if I have full health and mana, but taking damage and using a few spells doesn't make any difference; I can run past it three or four times before I actually get them restored. Save game attached. By the way, this is my first time uploading a save game for AVWW; is this the right files?

Wow, I just had this happen with me too, except I was a neutral skelebot. I was clearly injured, in the red in health and it took several passes by the guardian stone to get it too heal me (I mean I know the Illari don't like skelebots but I don't think this is intended). |
Okay you know what is really weird, my Skelebot character was injured and when I touched the guardian stone, it gave me my warp potions but did not actually heal me. Took a few more passes to get healed. |
Oh well, that explains it! It's a fashion thing, the Ilari don't care for white. |
For me, when I tried it, it seemed like it might have had something to do with NPCs standing near the stone with me. Did you guys notice the same? |
No, doesn't seem like it. I stood in the "Press Confirm to Open Strategy Map" range for a while with no NPCs closer than about the height of my character, and didn't get healed. |
I've had this happen while not wearing white or being a Skelebot. I was dressed in trousers with a fetching white highlight down the leg, though... More seriously, it looks like there's a cooldown period between heals, and sometime this gets triggered without actually healing you. |
It seems to have a cooldown on healing your health and magic, yeah. I've timed it to 16 seconds. I'm not sure if anything was done about 0004258 (you're normally good at changing the status on things, and nothing's in the changelog), but it fits it to a tee. |
Also, the healing effect is separate from the stone giving warp potions, which might be the "gets triggered without healing you" you notice? |
It seems a little unnecessary that one should have to physically walk by them in the camp. If you're at your own settlement, I think you should be replenished as soon as you enter. It would make returning to the settlement into less of a to-do list. |
I'm reasonably sure this happens much more frequently when I'm on very low magic than otherwise (and possibly low health, although I tend to run magic down harder), and generally (although not exclusively) when I'm coming back from fighting bosses. Not sure if this helps, but there it is. |
I thought that this might have something to do with having consumed a potion recently, but a quick test indicates that it isn't. (Not a potion much lower level than I am, anyway. I'm a little short on high-level potions to be using them up in this kind of test.) |
Updated the summary to be more accurate. |
When I walk by a stone and it does not heal me, if I walk by the other stone in the settlement that one will heal me. |
Is there a fix for this coming soon? Because this is starting to get really annoying. |
I think I've figured out the cause of this bug. Guardian stones have a cooldown on them now, and that cooldown isn't getting cleared when you leave the chunk. So every time you want to get healed by the guardian stone you have to spend about 16 seconds in the camp. |
Yeah... I pointed that out about eight days ago. |
Oh, certainly. That's where I pulled the 16 seconds figure from. But not clearing the cooldown when you leave the chunk seems to be where the buggy/confusing behavior happens. |
Sorry... I'm just real crabby today for various reasons, and noticed the above could've come off as somewhat... unfriendly. No offence meant. |
This should be a lot better in 0.522. I don't think the issue was with it not clearing the cooldowns, although it MIGHT have been. I think the real issue was that lately in particular it could only heal you OR restore your magic OR give you warp scrolls within a short amount of time. |
Yup, seems fixed! |
I'm still seeing it in 0.522 |
Yeah, me too, actually :(. It still seems like the snowsuit tends to provoke it, although it happens without too. If you just stand by the stone and wait after it fails to heal it doesn't ever heal you, which I think was happening after a delay in .521. |
Disclaimer: I haven't tried 0.522 yet. I never had the guardian stone heal health *or* magic -- it was always both or neither. I also never had a delay in receiving warp potions. From my observations, the healing seemed to be on a cooldown based on how long you'd been /in the settlement/ since the last heal. If I came home just to heal and then left again immediately, I'd have to wait around next time before being healed. If I spent some time in settlement management or something, there'd be no delay before my next heal. I haven't performed sufficient experimentation to verify (or falsify) that hypothesis, but it does seem feasible and matches what I remember observing. |
martyn_van_buren: Yes, if you don't move then the guardian stone doesn't notice you and thus doesn't heal you, at the moment. jerith: Also yes, prior to 0.521 it would be all or nothing. |
I'm still seeing this in 0.522. It restores health and magic simultaneously, but only after a delay. |
Okay, got this one for real finally. It was a multiple-cause thing all the way through -- the other fix that I put in last night was indeed a fix for part of it, but this is the other part: * Made it so that item pickups and illari healing can both trigger for a player that is not moving. Previously, you could only pick up the items or get healed / scroll replenished if you were moving around. * Fixed an issue where the cooldowns of NPCs (including Illari, big bosses, and so on) were not being properly reset when the chunk was dropped to disk but the world was not yet dropped to disk. Thanks! |
