Summary0004110: Building Bridges
DescriptionMy world at this point is made up of three land masses, separated by one tile of ocean at the narrowest point. Is it planned to add the ability to build bridges? This would save the hassle of getting pulled into the ocean, and having to run to the right/left to get out of the chunk to continue on land.

Something needs to be done long term about this issue.

I think it shouldn't be an easy task, not like just building a windshelter. Once the bridge is built that ocean is effectively 'conquered' for your civilisation.

Rather than bridges, maybe a system of shipping ports? This would effectively do the same job but would feel less overpowered (from a lore perspective).

I like the bridge idea -- for me, stepping in and out of an ocean tile to traverse it is broken. It should be more of a barrier

It's a bit ridiculous to call building a bridge "overpowered". It's just a bridge.

There could be some kind of rule in place saying that you can't build bridges of a certain length/width and something in place to stop you building just one massive sea covering bridge.

I did say I meant "overpowered" in from a lore perspective.
This is supposed to be an extremely harsh, dangerous world. Constructing a bridge over any considerable lenght of water is unbelievably costly in terms of man power and materials, commodities which are in terribly short supply in Environ. :)

There shouldn't be a need for bridges if we get the ability to swim without taking damage from acid water.

I know there are already players exploring the ocean tiles and their cave systems, I assume by the means of repeated application of health items, but Ocean areas will be made more accessible at some point if I remember correctly.

Though there would still be the getting drawn into the middle of the ocean factor but maybe the hypothetical swimsuit we might be getting will nullify that effect.

Of course, you could always fly across using the bat form scrolls. You'd still get sucked into the middle, but you wouldn't take damage from the water since you'd be flying over it. (just watch out for the amoebas)

Edit2: Sorry for the spam, I thought I was responding to the duplicate bridge issue report about the island magma tower. There is a need for bridges if island continents become common.

I imagine they should get laid down in a way similar to roads, connecting surface human use areas to each other with out player control over where they go. The player can't abuse the bridges that way. I'd also make them free because roads are also free.

Once you have visited a Human Use area on both sides of the 'river/gulf', and they would logically get a connection otherwise according to the road laying logic, give the player the option to pool TU's from the NPC's in the two HUAs to be connected in order to build it.

Given that we now have several smaller continents instead of one massive pangaea, bridges shouldn't really be needed anymore.
