Summary0004099: Suggestion: Make the Adviser Stone's tutorial hints unlock as you level up
DescriptionI've noticed several people complaining about having to read through all 34 of the Adviser Stone's tooltips. I know that it only asks you to read the first 4 but people seem to think they have to read them all right away. Now I haven't read them in a while but I do believe that they refer to things that aren't unlocked right away. Perhaps you could make it so ask you level up and unlock new things in you settlement, you also unlock new tips at the Adviser stone that relate to what you unlock. The message log could include something like 'Visit the Adviser Stone to find out more about these."

I understand if you want them all available from the get-go but it may ease some confusion. Plus, if they are unlocked as the things they relate to are unlocked, it may help with the confusion on what to do with these things that were just unlocked.

I was thinking of making tip 6 something along the lines of "you know enough for now, feel free to come back and read more sometime in the future" sort of thing. That way people have the option, but are encouraged to strike out without it. Thoughts?

Hints that aren't level specific should be able to be read at any time (much like your thought's Chris), but I think anything that isn;t viewable/doable by the player at that time shouldn't be there - it confuses me if no-one else ;)

BUT that would then mean having to add into the message window when new knowledge was available from the stone.

I like the idea of hiding info about things you can't do yet.

That sounds like a good solution.

I do wonder how many people don't read past the first 4 required messages though. It seems like there may be some confusion on the newly unlocked items and I don't know if people think to look at the adviser stone for info about these new things.

I guess if you were to remind them about the stone when something is unlocked then you'd fall into the same problem as before, you'd just be putting off when people read through all of the tips.

What about splitting up the tips into a dialogue tree? Categories like "Getting Started", "Crafting", "Civilization Building" and the like that can be chosen by the player. At least then the initial infodump doesn't seem quite so monolithic and daunting upfront.

I think that's ultimately where it needs to go, but that will take more work in the short term.
