Summary | 0003910: Need a way to graphically see how far your spell will go
Description | Now that many of the spell ranges were reduced, I'd like there to be a way to graphically see how far the right/left click spells will go, because most of them don't go across my screen (2500 or 2600 pixels) and so I end up wasting mana at least some of the time. Would it be possible to make the mouse cursor change color, or perhaps have a range overlay (a la all the overlays in AIW), or - well, something? :)

Ooh, man, I'm not even sure this is possible. The distance that spells will go is not absolute, it's based on time and thus it's going to vary slightly given that it's a bunch of floating-point calculations. Moreover, we have no idea what spell you're planning on launching next, since you can easily have at minimum two loaded to the mouse, and in many cases more like 5. And there's also things to consider like the ones with a physics calculation (the launched rock), where it really has to go through the simulation to find out where it would land. I can't think of a model where this would be feasible, unfortunately, but I can see why it would be nice. Interestingly, it's another thing that only comes up above 1920x1280; on that resolution or down, pretty much all the spells go a bit further than the distance of the screen, so mostly anything you can see you can hit. That said, there's still times when I want to shoot something that is offscreen, and that can sometimes require some figuring. I think this is going to turn out to just be one of those things that folks have to get a feel for, as much as I'd like to do something else. I can't see anything else being flexible enough to work with all the spells, and even on the simplest of spells it would be slightly off enough that if you were trying to stay at max range you'd likely miss enemies a lot (and, of course they move anyhow). |
