Summary0003844: Ships in FRD not always regathering at FRD point
DescriptionThe intended behavior of ships in FRD is when that there are nothing for them to do (attack stuff for military things, repair or build stuff for engineers), they should return the point where the FRD move command was centered on. Sometimes, they don't.

The trigger seems to be either they were targeting a ship that just died or targeting a ship that left the system. Even then, it only seems to happen sometimes.

Hmm, shouldn't be too terribly hard for me to get a save; it happens all the time in my game. But thanks to the way that units tends to reprocess from scratch "what should I do now" on game load, it might "fix itself" upon load.

The weirdest instance of this I see is if I FRD ships into an AI system, their FRD point is the wormhole they enter through. But if I build a Command Station, suddenly they all move over to the Command Station.

There's a limited amount I can do without steps to reproduce, though I do understand it may be hard to get it to reproduce across saves.

I can investigate it without steps, but it generally takes hours, and I don't have them right now :)

The best I can think of doing is to just have your ships on FRD on a planet when a wave comes in, deliberately allow some of the ships of the wave to retreat, and then see what happens after all the ships are gone or dead. Moderately often, you'll see at least some ships not retreating back to the FRD point.

Yea, but like many intermittent bugs involving state that might get messed with during load, this is a tricky one to reproduce reliably.

IIRC, in the debug view, the current orders for the "stuck" ship was still to attack a ship that has already left the system, if this helps any.

EDIT: By this token, I think I have seen this sometimes when my ships try to take out an Astro turret train, but the train escapes before my fleet can do so.

I've mostly seen this when I have lots (1000+ ships) in the system. It might happen at other times as well, but that seems to be when most of it happens for me. It could be that it's when it's most likely to surface since more ships have orders that can go wrong, I suppose.

I thought it was due to parasites and the "reclaimed units rally" flag interacting badly with auto frd ^^* My new toys tend to be spread all over my planet after an AI has attacked but usually just the new units ^^* Especially bad with tackle drones ^^*

I've noticed that this happens most predominantly with melee units, which might help locate the issue.

I had a blob of viral shredders, and they'd semi-blob around the last target they had, and never re-group at the FRD location.
