Summary0029857: Flow of upgrades stops in chapter 2
DescriptionIn chapter 1, we are conditioned that as we complete projects, particularly critical path projects, and especially the harder versions of those projects, we get research to improve various things, particularly buildings. This largely stops in chapter 2, and is instead substituted for design points based upgrades alone. This is a rough transition. If it is intended, signposting is needed, if it is not intended, then most chapter 2 projects need to have an upgrade or two assigned to them (particularly capacity upgrades for buildings)

You do get a lot of upgrades in chapter two still, but they're a lot more targeted. In general, chapter one gives you about 1/6th the number of upgrades it used to give you, too. There were way too many upgrades being given out all the time. A lot of the upgrades in chapter two are really quite invisible, as when you need to do some stuff with some buildings, you wind up with a bunch of upgrades related to those.

I would wager you get more actual upgrades in chapter two than in chapter one, especially recent versions of chapter one. There's plenty for the actual playing of the game.

THAT said, your point is still taken, and I think something is being lost right now in terms of the options to further customize yourself. For the current testing state, I'm actually okay with this, as it helps makes sure the minimum viable path is always viable. But after this content sprint, I need to substantially improve the pace of these secondary rewards, just for feel purposes more than anything else.

You get stronger in a lot of ways in Chapter 2, but what I mean are the chapter 1 style upgrades where they sit in the top left corner for a turn or two, and then pop up the little multiple choice box. Those upgrades have tooltips that stay stuff like 1/21 but only have 1 increment of it available in the whole game at this stage

Thanks!

* Consistently throughout chapter 2 and onward, with a few exceptions, you now get research domain inspiration from projects like you were during chapter one.
** This gives you a vastly more powerful set of tools to customize your empire with, and makes each playthrough more varied from others.
** In the post-apocalypse, you still get almost nothing, which is by design.
