Description | The "Helping Hands" quickstart has the player allied with a strength 5 nanocaust against a difficulty 3 AI opponent. This does make for an extremely easy game, but the nanocaust ends up spreading and taking over most of the galaxy very quickly against an AI which can't stop it, which causes a massive hit to sim speed for slower machines. In my opinion, this is a bad first experience to the game for new players. The nanocaust should be weakened, changed to a different, less aggressive ally or entirely removed. | ||||

Apparently there's also an issue where an instigator base will cause lag if it can't find a valid planet to spawn on. That might be to blame for the reported drops in sim speed when playing this quickstart if the nanocaust has taken every valid planet for an instigator base. This can likely be reproduced by letting the saved game provided run until the AI tries to spawn an instigator. |
