Fortunately, this is not something that any game can directly cause. The permissions on your operating system would not allow any random program to do this at all.

There are only really two possibilities here:

1. Something else is causing your computer to go into sleep mode, and it's just a coincidence that the game is open. If you are playing on a laptop, this could be something like a faulty sensor in the hinge that closes it, so it thinks that the case is being closed, etc.

2. The game IS the indirect cause of the computer going into sleep mode, but this would mean you have much larger problems. Typically the only way this would happen is if a program asks the OS for RAM, and that RAM that has physical problems, and the OS then goes into a panic and shuts down. This would typically not manifest as sleep mode, but rather an unexpected shutdown or reboot. Any program that requests enough RAM to hit the problem spot would trigger the issue if this is what is going on.

Since it is literally sleep mode and not an outright shutdown, I am inclined to think it's something other than bad ram. You may wish to disable sleep mode in your OS, or run something else that uses 6+ GB of RAM and see what happens. You can also run memtestx86 or similar to check your ram for faults.

But for a game to request sleep mode of a computer, we would have to explicitly link to some windows APIs, and then make a request which would then pop up a physical question box on your screen. No program is capable of unilaterally making a modern OS go to sleep mode on its own.
