Typically the answer is "verify integrity of local file cache" with Steam. Steam has been doing an increasingly poor job of downloading files all correctly. Usually once a verification is done, then suddenly things just work properly. Doing an uninstall and reinstall is not the same thing, and unlikely to work. Hope that helps! |

So, this is a crash somewhere in PhysX in the game engine, which we pretty much just use for mouseover detections of things and not much else. That PhysicsManager::Simulate call is something that happens 5x a second, called from inside unity to inside PhysX, and it doesn't really involve Arcen code. If it was malformatted data that we somehow fed into PhysX, we could very vaguely possibly be causing it somehow, but that would have to be based on a raycast or something. This does seem to be in the "fetchResults" method, which might be related to raycast callbacks, I'm not sure. But specifically, it is having trouble deallocating from the heap: DynamicHeapAllocator::Deallocate My best guess based on THAT would be: 1. Some sort of driver thing, although I thought PhysX was more self-contained with that. 2. Some sort of bug in this particular version of unity, but we haven't updated that lately and there's no reason it should suddenly be failing, but just some of the time, and just for you. 3. Antivirus or antimalware software. I've never seen it exactly like this one before, but I have seen a variation on this sort of thing, over and over, very infrequently, for the last 12+ years. Essentially, when antivirus is scanning an active process, sometimes it sees something it doesn't like, and goes "no you can't do that," and then the program itself goes "ah, somebody has stuck their fingers into my guts, I'm dying!" and crashes. I don't know why antivirus would object to a deallocation of ram of all things, that's a first if that's what that is. It wouldn't be an out of memory issue, since this is deallocation not allocation. It could be a sign of failing RAM hardware, but that seems like a stretch. I would be most tempted to be suspicious of the unity version itself, as that's the thing that is most likely to be a failure state, but lots of other people have been using this for quite a while, and we haven't done any recent updates. So that drops the likelihood a lot. That really does bring me back around to the drivers, since you have new nvidia drivers that were released in the last couple of weeks according to your log. That seems to be the thing that has changed the most, and that would be most specific to your machine at the moment. I hate not being able to give a very good answer, but at the moment that's all I really have. Thanks for the logs! |

Thanks for the reply. I can't see it being the Arcen code as I have been playing this since it came out (on and off) and very rarely had a crash and now crashing every game (last played around Nov) . Will wait until the next NVIDIA release and hope it sorts it out! Happy for you to close. |
