Summary0027450: Fan Beams have...either an incorrectly functioning mechanic or an incorrect tooltip.
DescriptionYou can set this on a beam weapon system:

number_beams_to_fire="12"

The tooltips for such weapons say that, in this example, it hits targets with 1/12th the damage per beam that hits them, i.e it is split evenly amongst each beam.

In practice, the damage is actually full. So the above weapon would be doing 12x what it suggests.

The only thing that seems to do this logic, splitting across each beam, is knockback. Nothing else ever mentions this.

I know that when I made the Frenzy Golem with converging beams I had to account for this because of the full damage application. In effect you have to hit with all beams to get full damage yes. But the damage cap is the max per beam times number of beams that hit. There would be a number of ships needing a balance pass if this gets changed.

I'd love to see this fixed. Also, if the effect worked, it suggest rewording the tooltip to use the phrase "Damage is split evenly between beams".
