The same thing happens with battlestations. |
If I recall, the new stationary tab include moveable structures that are not very fast or meant to be jump around like a fleet. They tend to orbit one planet or world and stay there vs Mobile Fleets which move rapidly across several systems quickly. |
This distinction seems a bit vague. Units that can't leave the planet makes more sense to me. |
I suggest there be three categories then. ST for Stationary, SP for Support (BST, CIT, CFAC), and M for Mobile (Officer, Lone, Strike force) |
There is definitely not room for three sections, but this particular distinction was done on purpose (and is in the release notes, but there's a lot in there). The point of mobile versus stationary is meant to be the things that you can move around at will between your planets (hey, an attack is coming, what can I gather to planet X?), or in the case of the AI, what might theoretically be a threat to you (well, the stuff that moves or is planetbound is no risk). Battlestations and citadels are in particular things that are kind of like trebuchets in some other games. You can move them, sure, but you have to "unpack them" and "pack them" to do so. All those turrets don't deploy themselves, and cost metal to move around. Support factories (combat factories) actually are probably classed wrong, because they are more like aircraft carriers. Yeah they are slow, but they are a mobile launching point of very highly mobile drones and ships, and if they have something they can deploy, it's still a minority of their function. So I think I'd be inclined to move those, but not the battlestations or citadels. This was a deliberate choice originally, but my thinking on the combat factories was incomplete. |

I think that reasoning makes sense, and BT and CT should probably stay in the stationary. I haven't played the tutorial in a long time, but does it teach the player about beach heading and moving BT around to build defences as needed? Calling it stationary might mislead players into leaving them on the HW and then wondering how does the game expect them to get around the MKV spawning 2 hops out |
The tutorial doesn't get into beachheading. I think we'd need a new tutorial to do that, if we were going to add one. It would be an intermediate topic. |
