Summary | 0024107: Reroll hacks encourage save scumming
Description | Minor issue, but because the GCA and Tech Vault reroll hacks roll a new value at runtime, they allow you to get any tech or turret you want via save-scumming. In fact, since the new value is rolled when the hack completes, you can save 1s before the hack ends and repeatedly reload it. I liked the way ARS hacks worked in classic better, where the hack would open your choice of a fixed set of new options.

unfortunately, that leaves you entirely at the mercy of RNG. |

I don't think killing save-scumming as a strategy is a good idea. Why should save-scumming like this be removed as an option for people who want to use it? If you don't like being able to do this then Don't Do It. You are opting into this behaviour. |
|
I don't see much to gain from reducing options like this. Some people would rather be allowed to save scum. |

Yeah the current setup is fine. I don't even bother savescumming in many of my games nowadays, just rerolls a few times. For ARS and non-GCAs like vaults, you still increase the hacking response when rerolling, so the trade off is okay. Hacking vaults for science is doable too. Not great, but perfectly fine. |
