Summary | 0002256: Engineers do auto-assist building allied units with more than 1000/s resource drain
Description | Currently, the logic for engineers not auto-assisting a build of a unit that drains more than 1000/s of resources only applies to units of the same player as the engineer. If an allied structure that more drains more than 1000/s is built, then their engineers will work properly, but my (and my other teammates') engineers will automatically help it. Marked as version 4.059 because that is when I first noticed the behavior and I have not tested it on 4.060, though I suspect it is still there.

Not really part of the issue, but I wanted to mention that this has bitten me when my allied tried to build a zenith power generator on my homeworld (which was well defended and away from the AI, so that was a good choice). |
The limit is at 1100, I believe, which means that engineers auto-assist ZPGs no matter who they belong to. |
Then how come they didn't auto-assist my ZPG, but they did auto-assist my allies ZPG? |
Odd. They've always auto-assisted my ZPGs... EDIT: Tested again right now, and they still auto-assist. |
Well, if the cap for auto assist is 1100/s and not 1000/s, then it was stupid of me not to realize this earlier, and I guess close this issue too. |
You're far from the only one semi-annoyed that engineers assist ZPGs. There's been several similar issues. That being said, if your first post was only about ZPGs, then yeah, it's identical to the rest of the issues. Odd that they don't autoassist yours though and only your allies. |
Maybe I remembered wrong. Who knows? Anyways, if you think it is a good idea, should I post a suggestion that the auto-assist cap should be lowered from 1100/s to 1000/s? EDIT: Doh, ninja'd with the duplicate issue flag. Somebody beat me to it. :P |
Yep, I did :P Feel free to leave this issue as is, I think, and just add your vote to that issue (which I see you've already done). If Chris or Keith wants anything else, I hope they speak up. |

For 4.067 : * Added galaxy-wide and per-planet integer-textbox controls for "Engineers Do Not Assist Large Projects". ** If this is not zero, your engineers will not auto-assist a self-building structure with a per-second metal or crystal cost that is equal to or greater than the specified value. ** This ONLY applies to assisting self-building units, it does not apply to repairs or assisting build queues (of a Space Dock, for example). ** It only triggers on the higher of the metal or crystal cost-per-second values, not the sum of them. ** If you've defined a value for this at the per-planet level and at the galaxy-wide level, the game will use the per-planet value and ignore the galaxy-wide value for that planet. |
Does this mean that the old limit of 1100 no longer exists? I.e. if you leave this empty, engineers will auto-assist all building? |
Correct. |
If it's 0 will the simply not auto-assist, or will the auto-assist everything? And thank you, this will help immensely to keep my engineers on just repair duty. |
Chris asked me to make it include repairs, so it now does, but generally you aren't repairing stuff that costs massive m/c per second. If you are, a per-planet punch-through might be all you need. Also, it will default to 400. If it's zero then it suppresses nothing. If it's 1 it suppresses all self-building and repairing. And you're very welcome :) |
