Currently both these and ion cannons are
                        target_type_for_player="NeverAutotargetButAllowManualTarget"

This means they are less likely to get killed by your forces at random (which means you can't hack to take them), but I think overall I'd probably rather have my units just kill them. If I want to hack for them its because the planet is really strong and my ships can't get to them to kill them.

Or I can just make minor factions kill them by default.

I think for now factions should just kill them. I have a feeling if player units kill them automatically then someone'd bring it up?

This might be too ambitious, but what if there were a little menu (minimized by default) (i) which was local to the planet, and it told your forces how to react to each special structure. There would be a label for 'Ion Cannon' and a checkbox next to it, a label for Orbital Mass Driver and a checkbox next to it, etc. Checked would mean 'autotarget' and unchecked would mean 'only attack when manually targeted'. By default they could all start off as checked. Most of the time players wouldn't need this level of control, but it would be nice to have it.
-(i) It might also be integrated in an existing menu.

Alternatively, it could be a global setting rather than local to the planet. I think that would sacrifice some degree of control but would probably be easier to implement.

Minor factions capturing those would be pretty cool and would allow the player to later recapture them... just my 2c.

* Ion Cannons and Orbital Mass Drivers will now be automatically targeted by units again, but are set to a low priority.
** They still seem to like shooting these first however, if they happen to be in the way.
** This lets factions destroy these again rather than being shot to bits, ignoring them.
** Feedback is appreciated - this is a fairly opinion heavy thing.
