Summary0021131: Swarm management interface idea
DescriptionEver heard of Liquid War? https://youtu.be/57o_GG5U-ew?t=14

With the amount of units present at all times, the game can feel a lot like it. The issue is that micromanaging fleets to be in desirable formations is difficult with how it currently is. I'd like to propose something similar to Zero-K's line formations: https://youtu.be/if8g0YIDJ7s?t=44

The 2 features here that would be useful in particular are drag line movement paths and drag line formations. The formations would need to be implemented differently to accommodate the huge amounts of units, though. Dragging a line in AI War 2 should instead create a huge blob (like turning the brush size up in painting software) that shrinks in thickness as you make the line longer to account for the units being more spread out and thus, making units bunch up along the line less (black line represents cursor path, red represents what will be shown in the GUI, left side is a shorter path with a large number of units, right side is a longer path with the same number of units):

To go with this it would be appropriate if there was a more strict version of group move that forced units in a selection to maintain their relative position as they move around. If going through a wormhole, they should immediately take formation again once they're at the other side. I think the ZK video above also demonstrates a similar feature. It would also be interesting to be able to rotate an existing active formation while using this feature but that might be unnecessary.
