Summary0002017: Hunter Killers need a significant buff
DescriptionAs it stands they die too easily and, more importantly, do far too little damage. If they're to replace thousands of ships, they should be able to level a sizable static defense or engage a large mass of fleet ships with reasonable success. They shouldn't be able to be killed by a modest fleet (a few hundred mixed mark ships) and they certainly shouldn't have to fire at a turret twice. I think a significant part of the problem is that they simply fire too few shots. They can't possibly have the impact of a large mass of ships if they can't hit a large number of targets, nor are their shots so damaging and frequent as to compensate. Right now they just aren't nearly as frightening, nor as damaging, as the ships they're replacing.

Yea, I think we're going to be getting into the territory of the devourer golem with this one ;)

No worries, Chris said it was a first pass at the concept, and would require a lot of feedback and balancing. As long as they get it right in the long term, and I'm sure they will, it'll be fine. :)

Maybe just add up all the DPS of the ships that get merged into the H-K and base it on that? Giving it all the HP would make it stronger than the swarm though unless its attack power decreases proportionally to the damage it has suffered.

This is still a pretty significant balance problem as of 4.051. I'm pretty sure that the H/K creation messages aren't supposed to be a source of [i]relief[/i]. It takes a lot of the bite out of high AIP situations.

Let's see what this does:

* Hunter Killers now have 5x more health, and 10x more attack power. They also now fire 10x as many shots at once as before.
