Summary | 0001984: Autosaves subdirectory and/or limited number of "no-overwrite" autosaves
Description | Two suggestions based upon autosaves that would both correct the issue I'm having. Currently, autosaves are saved in the same directory as manual saves. This means that, if your autosaves are not overwriting (which is useful for bug tracking!) your manual save folder gets spammed full of autosave files. I suggest either: a) An autosave subdirectory inside the manual save directory. This would keep them a little separate and you can go through your manual save directory much more easily. b) An option for how many autosaves to keep before you begin to overwrite. E.g. if you choose "10" then it will save 10 autosaves before it then starts to overwrite the oldest one with the newest one. I hope it isn't just me who would find one or both of these features really useful! Thanks guys, keep up the good work. This game is brilliant :)

Another, potentially more complicated option, is this: c) A subdirectory for the autosaves of each particular game. This could then be navigatable with a tree-like system so you can choose any autosave from any game that you have going by first choosing that game's subdirectory. I don't know if games currently have some sort of unique "GameID" that would work for this? Thanks! |

I mentioned in 1730 that your homeworld name might be ideal for that Ham |

I agree that'd be helpful, especially for remembering it yourself. Although I guess it wouldn't work 100% of the time - the list of world names aren't inifinite so some games might have the same world name. Or if you wanted to replay a map it would have the same name too. Perhaps homeworld+a number? |
|
eh.. names other than murdoch are randomly generated. I guess maybe if you do the same seed ect, but i dunno. |
|
I've just re-read the issue number 1283 and I understand why the admins wouldn't want to do the "have X autosaves and delete the oldest ones" (option b) ) - but the options a) and c) could still be possible? At least option a) leads to a slightly tidier saves folder and shouldn't be any different in terms of permissions at all as long as the autosave folder is created at the same time as the normal saves folder? |

This is a very STRONG SUPPORT from me! How about allowing us to "name" our game in the CTRL options. Named games (which is optional) are saved into a subfolder by that name in the save directory. Autosaves for the named game are placed there as well. I also support allowing for a number of autosaves to be kept, rather than all or nothing. |
|
Strong supporter. The ability to name and adjust frequencies would be helpful. |
|
I vote for a configurable number of autosaves. Don't much care about having them in another folder, though. |
