Summary0001804: The Colosseum - Planet Type
DescriptionAn old arena that was used for human-to-human duels, it now remains deserted. Where once a popular competition of human-programmed AI, it now is revered by the AI as 'historic ground' of their ascension--therefore has been left intact without further terraform and assimilation into AI production.

Players can initiate duels against the AI, where as a benefit, they can drain both the reinforcements and ships on nearby planets. These duels are ship vs ship, the best against the best, and the AI always matches or exceeds the number of ships the humans have combined. The battle, when initiated, is inescapable, and the AI respects this ritual by ceasing any waves and attacks it has upon the humans--a temporary armistice across the galaxy. All human actions are temporarily paused in mutual respect, including ship construction, resource generation, etc.. The below are some ideas of what happen when the humans lose, or win:

Both
A number of resources must be sacrificed here in order to incur the AI's agreement, and it reciprocates that amount--all players from the human team pay the aforementioned amount, and all players must agree to initiate. Another requirement is for a great number of ships: at least a thousand ships in total for each team with a few Starships; these ships must be on the planet to be counted.

At the end of a duel, all activity throughout the galaxy is resumed. Ships destroyed here count against the AI reinforcements and ships from adjacent planets are brought in to the duel. Because there is no AI presence here, it serves as an attacking route to any vulnerable planets adjacent to the Colosseum if players refuse to commit to a duel.

Lose
When players lose here, their not only lose their fleets, but they lose their offerings provided to the pot at the start. As a consequence, all surviving AI ships begin to attack the human planets, along with a future cross-planet-attack initiated from the Colosseum. This is an incentive to be prepared at the other end, and be prepared in-battle--all allies are encouraged to join this battle because they otherwise would have to watch the bout.

Win
Gaining twice the resources offered, the pot is shared amongst the team. AI loses reinforcements, and their adjacent planets are softened to an attack. If the human forces have been superior commanders, they may even have enough forces to attack them immediately.

Various other ideas could emerge from this idea, such as arena mods (special changes to the battle).

This was in mind of the old economy: the rewards may be a bit lackluster here because resources are less significant when you have a fleet of a thousand ships. :p

However, the ability to draw out ships from adjacent planets could be invaluable in some cases, if they were lucky enough to be seeded in being connected to valuable planets.

I think it is not particularly AI like behavior to respect a human tradition and a fair fight.

I would integrate this stroy-wise as kind of an artifact, sentient being much like the Dyson Sphere. Maybe call it the Judge. Both sides have to duel here as described above in order to win the right to control this planet and/or receive protection from the Judge.

My interpretation of it is that the AI still has some respect for humans in the way of battling, or something cliche like that anyways. Another way to look at it is that the AI has subroutines that still, for some reason, applies to the modern AI.

Perhaps an "AI vs AI" contest. Up to your imagination!

Besides that, with the new firepower index, it could use everything in its arsenal to match the combined firepower of the humans, and perhaps that could be seen as a somewhat unfair fight, as the AI has tech that humans don't.
