Summary0016931: Radar perspective view appears squashed
DescriptionHi there, Look at the radar and was thinking the squashed look seems out of place with the rest of the screen. Would it be possible to have it at the stand plan view angle?

The minimap, you mean? There's not really another way to represent that that is understandable to the human mind in any meaningful way, because that is the perspective that the world is in from how you are viewing it. It winds up getting very lost if you don't view it in that angle, and the shape of the world would be a hex that was confusingly rotated if we took it out of that perspective.

I meant the minimap, sorry.

What I noticed is you do get used to it, whether thats the right idea I'm not too sure. Most games having a mini-map (or a radar) struggle to make sense once you strip back to high-level detail, and I wish I had a suggestion for you that would help, but you're definitely a better judge here.

The games where I use the minimap a lot are usually Paradox titles (particularly EU4). However if they'd done the same type of perspective, as you've created in SBR, i think I'd still be ok with it due to the map being based on geographical understanding of locations and historical references.

In SBR defence being fictitious landscape is a disadvantage here. As it is harder on cognitive spatial acuity reasoning when there's a want (or need) to quickly grasp what all the individual bits mean.

As far as I can tell, the viewing angle is the same on both the game tiles and the minimap. The game tiles have isometric-view structures on them, though, which tricks your brain into seeing them as "equilateral hexes viewed from an angle" rather than the "squashed and slightly rotated hexes" you see in the minimap.
