Summary0001683: Shield Spirecraft
DescriptionI haven't bothered to build one of these in a realistic stance, but based off of its stats I am lead to believe that these are underpowered. While they don't reduce friendly firepower under the protection of it (or so I dearly hope), they don't have much holding power, and the HP ranges from seven million to a few tens of millions (a MK1 FF has 9M). The coverage radius is great, but if it's similar to the case of the home command FF, it will simply disappear into oblivion under any moderate fire.

There are simply better craft to be spending on than upon the shield type. While I think the general solution here is to increase the HP and possibly its armour, it will scale differently with the minor faction difficulty chosen. While they may be useful when the ability to repair them is granted, they're absolutely out of the question if they can't be.

Possible solutions:
a) significantly increase HP,
b) increase armour,
c) decrease movement speed,
d) allow them to regenerate if they cannot be repaired due to difficult chosen for the minor faction.

Please at least try to use a new type before submitting a balance issue about it :)

I've used it in rudimentary testing, but they don't seem to be very effective. Alike normal forcefields, they begin to disappear when they're attacked by anything that's good against the ultra-heavy hull type, and 7M HP isn't durable at all.

Of course, they would be decent/great in numbers and when you can repair them, but at minimal, if you can't repair them, they're complete duds.

If anything, after seeing that save of yours, I'm considering nerfing these. ;)

Could you at least give it a tiny regen, like taking 2-3 game hours (or more) to go from 1HP to full? This way, people won't be quite so scared to use them, but will still try to save them. This way, if they get really hurt, they will be out of commission for a long time, but not forever.

I've learned that when people have that sort of thing, that just encourages them to use +10 speed for a long time. And they complain even harder about not being able to just speed up the repairs by manually repairing, etc. It's kind of a vicious cycle, really. ;)

But more to the point, that would just really defeat the purpose of these specific units. Does that mean that people won't use these much at the higher tiers? Probably. And that's okay. But when somebody REALLY needs some mobile cover, that mark V is awesome. As for the mark Is, there are absolutely tons of Pysite and Reptite around, and so having these on hand isn't too hard a decision to make.

That's part of why the finite aspect is in there. Really, when I was designing the spirecraft in general, they were all supposed to be completely finite with no repairs or regen. Trying to make them repairable made a few of them -- like these -- just massively OP. So I reverted them to the original design.
