Summary | 0001675: voluntary way to submit save files for statistics gathering at the end of games, win or lose
Description | 1. This would be voluntary. No unintended or subtle attempts at giving away your private data of how much you abuse starships or whatever. ;) 2. This would allow the game designers to see what people like, use, identify balance issues, identify game settings that people like, identify ships people like, identify exploits 3. Again, completely voluntary automatic submission for the betterment of the game, which would offer an objective view of how people play.

I really don't think this would be a good use of our time: there's just FAR too much data to really have it be interpret-able. Sure, we could tell sort of what players like to use, but since that should intentionally vary by scenario, the data would be incredibly skewed until we had thousands of saves. And even then, given the rate the game changes, that wouldn't give us much useful info. I've written about why I don't do automated analysis more in some posts on the forums, but with a game like AI War I think it simply won't give a good result for a lot of detailed reasons I posted about elsewhere. Plus it would be a massive time investment, a big bandwidth and storage cost, and just generally a side quest that we can get just as good of results from by having the kind suggestions about balance, etc, from players like yourself. Hundreds of players using brain heuristics and complex thought, filtered through Keith's and my own analysis and the relatively few automated analysis tools we do use, are to me the sweet spot of productivity all around. It's not perfect, but nothing would be. |

Yea, what I was thinking of was just stuff like "what bonus ship(s) did they pick in the lobby, or did they leave it random", and which techs were unlocked when. In general I want to know what ship types people _don't_ use (or unlock higher levels of if they got it from an ARS), and also if there are any out there that everyone always uses (which doesn't necessarily mean it's OP, but it's worth a look). I was just thinking of having it dump this stuff to a .txt file (in csv format, like the event attack composition stuff) like the other advanced log (though under a different toggle) that the player could then upload to the forums or mantis or whatever. And I could collect them and plug them into excel whenever I felt the need. In order to get the really important data of _why_ people do that stuff, of course, the manual methods are really the only way. |

I'd be willing to provide my bonus ship preferences/tendencies and/or explain my choices/feedback if you wanted to know, log report or otherwise as needed. |
