Summary0001628: When is a Wave of Spire Gravity Drains too Many?
DescriptionAt a ship cap of 22 and an AIP of 115, I got a wave of about 100 of them. Each shot nearly insta-kills any Mk1 (non-spire) ship, at 184,000 damage.

I did beat them back with my fleet, but I lost 300 ships in the process. 100 triangle ships is the norm at this point in the game (just got an inbound wave of 118 bombers and 200 Tigers), so a 5x shipcap worth of Spire Gravity Drains seems...2.5x too many.

Also, the 200 tigers are inbound to a different planet than the 100 bombers.

I think other spire ships are doing the same kind of thing as well. I can't test it extensively right now, but I have been attacked by 5-6 spire battleships in 7.6 difficulty within 2 minutes of the game starting, which is pretty rough.

5-6 is the fixed amount though, that's only 3x ship cap on normal. 50 of them (which I had, and which prompted the prior fix) was not.

It just seems a bit wrong to me that the difficulty can swing so much just based on the ship types the AI gets. 5-6 fighters is an entirely different story than 5-6 stealth battleships. That may be a different issue than the spire gravity rippers, which seem to come in quantities comparable to triangle ships. I don't know if the other ones come in such big waves yet.

Keith fixed several bugs in 4.042 that should also fix this.
