Summary | 0001616: AP not doubling/halving with ship cap = fairly skewed TTKs
Description | To use mk 3 fighter vs mk 3 bomber as an example: bomber hp / ( (fighter damage * bonus vs polycrystal - |bomber armor - fighter AP|) / fighter refire delay) = TTK high cap TTK: 250200 / ( (4500 * 3.2 - |3500-3000|) / 4 ) = 72s normal cap TTK: 500500 / ( (9000 * 3.2 - |7000-3000|) / 4 ) = 80.71s low cap TTK: 1008000 / ( (18000 * 3.2 - |14000-3000|) / 4 ) = 86.52s This case doesn't seem too bad itself, but if the cases happen to be closer to the damage minimum, it would yield a much bigger spread. The fact there are different numbers of ships is relatively meaningless in this case as well because fighter and bomber ranges are fairly equivalent, and 1000 fighters should kill 1000 bombers in roughly the same timespan as 10 fighters kills 10 bombers as 1 fighter kills 1 bomber. The DPS and HP are both multiplied by the same factor so it essentially divides itself out for the most part. It would be nice if the |armor-AP| part of the equation could be put inside the damage multiplier and then everything rebalanced on that as well as AP doubling/halving with difficulty to offset the damage vs |armor-ap| modifier, but even just halving/doubling AP would put things a lot closer to the normal TTK speed and keep the balance experience somewhat more consistent at varying ship cap levels. Fighters vs bombers is probably one of the more critical cases to keep in line anyway since those always exist in fairly hefty numbers in every game.

...Keith? This was your thing. |

I think he said that it was a display issue because the code theoretically does do this already. It doesn't show up in the in game stats mouseover box as of .57 or so. I've been busy and got a few dozen games in steam sales packs I'm busy going through right now so AIW hasn't been on my "to play" list recently to see if this is still the case. |
|
Ok -- no worries, and thanks for the update. Hopefully there will be lots of nice refinement having AIW at a great state for you when you circle back around to it. I can certainly understand wanting to spread out the gaming, I do that myself with games. :) |
