Summary | 0001614: Suggestion: AIP relatedwWave size cap & management
Description | Fairly simple, two part suggestion. 1) Rather than the old, eg. 2000 ship wave cap, have a dynamic wave cap that increases with AIP, that also applies to warpcounterattacks. 2) at AIPs too low to create carriers, have all the leftover ships after the wave cap spawn elsewhere as special forces

Agreed, I'm actually shocked it didn't get implemented like this the first place! |

Unfortunately, the 2000 ship cap wave limit isn't a thematic one -- it's a technical limitation. Sure, you can have larger waves, but it tends to degrade performance and on some larger games (particularly giant multiplayer games) has a risk of causing out of memory (GC Heap Size) errors. Having overflow go to special forces in general is a bit better, but the more special forces units there are, the slower the game tends to get -- the special forces captains but a unique load on the game, for instance, which I wouldn't want to always have present. The carriers let the battles still be as large as they should be, but with a multi-stage nature to them, which is precisely what needs to happen with battles in order for them to be both difficult and performance-friendly. |
