Summary0001523: 138 Spire Maws in an early wave is... impossible
DescriptionI was able to kill half of them with a full fleet of triangle ships before they destroyed my home command station. I had only captured two planets, AIP @ 32 by the time the wave showed up.

They ate my SSBs. :(

The Laser Turrets Do Nothing!


IMO the wave sizes need to be tuned so that higher strength ships (Spire ships, mainly) come in fewer numbers than "normal" waves containing fighters or bombers, for example.

I was wondering how a Spire Maw wave would work, I'm surprised they didn't shallow your fleet whole sale.

SSBs = Spire Stealth Battleships, correct? talk about prioritizing, I'm impressed. Still a sad moment as the human player though.

Yeah, they always eat my starships and spire ships first, then often go on a cruise through deep AI territory and since it takes forever to digest these units I'm not getting my shipcap back either. Fortunately they often turn up in one of my systems after some time.

Wow that's devious.

You can't get your ships back because they're being digested but they aren't dead yet so you can't rebuild them. I'd never thought of that, it's good that they like to show up again though, gives you a second chance at getting your stuff back. (if only there weren't so many of them.)

I think the number of ships in a wave should be roughly proportional to the shipcap.

Also I believe the spire fleetships may have a very low energy consumption for their size and power, 200 for the stealth battleship IIRC. That makes IREs sad.

AI Spire Maws definitely eat *some* ships (my SSBs fell victim pretty quickly). I think my fleet avoided getting eaten due to bug 1472. I fear to think what will happen when that refuse-to-eat bug is fixed.

Yeah, AI Maws don't seem to eat more than 3-4 ships for me but that's enough since those tend to be starships and spire ships.

What KDR said. Currently, the "reinforcement cost" of the AI getting a ship is not scaled properly with the player's ship cap. This applies to the other spire fleet ships too, and zenith electric bombers (which is a long standing issue).
Basically, this makes the game near unplayable if the AI gets any spire ships.

Edit: I am not saying the AI should be capped by player ship caps, but rather I am saying that the AI should follow the same ship cap ratios. For example, the cap for laser gattlings is about 2.8 times the cap for the normal triangle of ships. As such, the AI, on average, should get about 2.8 times the number of laser gattlings as normal ships, or rather, it should be 1/2.8 times as expensive for the AI to warp in an laser gattlings as it is to warp in the normal fleet ships.

This should be resolved as of recently, in that you'd probably only see 14 maws in that case.
