Description | Essentially this would be an AI type specializing in ships with tractor beams. - It has etherjets and spire tractor platforms unlocked from the start. - It uses more tractor guardians than normal relative to other AI types. - For extra nastiness, perhaps many of its ships are immune to tractor beams themselves. I was thinking of calling this AI Thief, given that it will likely be running into your systems, stealing your ships, and running out. This would be an extra-fun type when combined with a one-way doormaster... | ||||

Give the maw parasite damage. It's not really attacking, it's just confused. When the transported ships fight back it just fixes their bugs. |

http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,4552.0.html I remember superking suggested a tractor heavy AI a long time ago. I suggested the name 'Linebacker' back then because of the suggested heavy use of ether-jets and riot ships with tractor beams. He was even considering a new tractor beam starship, which in a way we now have in-game in the form of the tractor beam guardian. He was thinking of calling it the 'Tractor Enthusiast', though I think a thief based name would also be very appealing. |

Cool! I totally forgot about the riot starships - and parasites would make this even nastier. (Even if this AI was just combined with the parasite AI...) I didn't even think about the maw... I didn't realize that there was a thread on the forums about a similar type - props definitely go to superking for thinking of it first in that case :) Also, Keith, I think a parasite version of the maw would make for an awesome experimental unit type. |

I thought you made your proposal quite unique with the addition of tractor immune ships and later parasites. 'AI Thief' would be a great name since it highlights that part of its proposed behavior. (I had it stuck in my mind that it was a defensive AI so I like the reminder that it can come and steal your stuff.) Nothing wrong with a little independent 'discovery', especially if you come up with refinements like this. I only mentioned the thread because I'd contributed to that thread in the past and wanted all of the ideas on the same table. ;) Perhaps we have two versions, a moderate version called the 'tractor enthusiast' that just focuses on tractor beams and a hard version that does that plus 'parasite' and 'raider' that we could call 'AI Thief'. |

Maybe some elements of both? |

Done :) It's a moderate type (out of the 6 I just added, 4 were in the hard category, didn't want to make it even more skewed in that direction), so it doesn't have maws or Riots. Later on I could do a "Villain" or "Mugger" or some-such hard variant ;) |

It would definitely be cool to see a "master thief" hard variant. More hard AI types is a nice thing, without the technologists it always feels like that end of the type spectrum is a little thin. It might just be skewed perception, though. :) |

Well, there are 4 new hard types in 4.058 :) One is a technologist though (the Crafty Spire one). I think the Spire Hammer one should provide an interesting challenge, though it doesn't really start to do so until it hits mkII waves so I'll probably need to ratchet that up a bit. |

Oh yeah, that was NOT a complaint, just an observation of the previous state of things. As I said elsewhere, these new AI types are as exciting as most of my Xmas gifts. Thanks Keith! |

I see the "tractor enthusiast" as the Thief, with parasites, I set it as a Technologist Thief. Can't wait to see it. |
