Summary | 0001476: Dyson sphere oddnes
Description | Dyson sphere - should it be active from what I think would be the start of game (or maybe from when I scouted it?) and it would do two things: - emits dysons that die quickly (yes even with 3.6m hp they die on that planet in very short time - fortresses simply waste dysons - Mk III + Mk I one attacking from afar is untouchable) - cause planet with dyson and planets next to it to reinforce to gargantuan numbers (700+ currently on low ship caps) - this causes constant stream of attacking ships in large groups from quite higher mark than my tech (mark of planets around the dyson mostly) - this planets are not marked as aware of player but behave like that

Definitely agree with this. You have to neuter all the planets adjacent to the sphere for these guys to stand a chance, and if you don't having multiple AI planets on alert seems to neutralize whatever defensive advantage you get. It would be nice if they were strong enough to keep 1 or maybe 2 planets under lockdown. It would really help them out as well if they could consistently fire on hybrids, too. When they're enabled the dyson gatlings get countered pretty hard. |
It's actually a plus to put more planets on alert. It diverts AI reinforcements. |
It's hardly a plus when you need to dig through 3 planets with 700+ ships on low caps... since dysons (the evil ones even - shooting at AI and you from before saving them) are simply unable to do anything to their planet. And at some point you will get hit by border aggression from this planets. |
This is acting as expected, yes. The dyson territory tends to be rather buff and unruly, but it does help by diverting ships from your frontlines during the early game in particular. |
