Summary | 0001471: Nuclear Proliferation Achievements!
Description | These are just a few achievements that can be handed to players for actually being crazy enough to use nukes. Using a Mark 1+ Nuke: "Stopped Worrying And Loved The Bomb" Using a Mark 2+ Nuke: "Now We Are All Sons Of Bitches" Using a Mark 3 Nuke: "Now I Am Become Death; Destroyer Of Worlds" ... Maybe shuffle those around some. Also: Using any Nuke against a Scorched Earth AI: "Fail-Deadly"

I would suggest that achievements for simply using nukes would be a bit too easy to acquire. Achievements for winning a game after using a nuke might be interesting, though. As Keith originally suggested when the mark 3 nuke was introduced, I think an achievement for winning after use of a mark 3 nuke (a real challenge!) entitled "it's the only way to be sure" would be entirely genre appropriate. :) Achievements for winning after use of lesser nukes would work too, though, with the titles suggested or otherwise. |
For MkIs I'd suggest at least a minimum number of uses to get an achievement. Like nuking six planets with MkIs. |
@KDR Actually, rather than linking it to the type of nuke used, you could just link it to the percentage of total worlds nuked. So the first level of the achievement would be winning after nuking a third of the worlds on the map, two thirds for the second, and the entire map (ala a Mk 3 Nuke) for the final one. |
Who'd nuke two thirds without nuking the rest? |
@KDR Good point. Maybe just two levels then? Alternately, something like 25%, 50%, 100% but the "who'd nuke 50% and not nuke it all" question arguably still applies. Eh, as someone that has only ever fired off one nuke, I'm probably not qualified for this. :) Ultimately, though, if there are nuke achievements, one of them definitely has to be called "It's the only way to be sure." |
I've added an achievement that I consider the fruition of this mantis record. |
