Summary0001321: Anti-starship arachnids can shoot everything
DescriptionAnti-starship arachnids are not limited to firing only on starships. With 160k damage and 7s reload they pretty much destroy enemy fleets single-handedly. I'm somewhat tempted to see if I could finish the game using only them.

No, that's on purpose. They're just especially mean vs starships. If they were so overly specialized they'd be worthless. Remember, these are core ships!

A core fighter 5 does 115k damage against bombers every 4 seconds at 3900 range. A bomber does 300k damage against UH every 8 seconds at 6000 range. A frigate does 160000 damage to Light every 7 seconds with 10000 range.

So their damage is roughly in line with other core ships... but I listed the damage against an optimal target. The arachnid does its full damage against everything. And they outrange almost everything and move twice as fast as any real combat ship.

I mean, if it's really on purpose, I'll continue to cackle with glee while they burn and pillage, but it seems like they are the solution to any problem I have.
