Summary | 0001102: Minor Faction: Travelers
Description | Travelers are an unidentified alien race that uses large craft to travel between galaxies, they do not seem to pursue any goals within the known galaxy. Traveler ships come in two variants: Large traveler ship: These ships stop only once in the galaxy before continuing on with their extremely powerful intergalactic engines. The travel method is unknown but it is very disruptive. Large traveler ships act like a black hole machine and interfere with supply at their current planet. When they leave their engine creates an exo-galaxy wormhole and teleports all mobile ships in their system to random locations up to 5 hops away. For players it is fairly important to destroy the traveler ship before it leaves and creates the wormhole but the timer is fairly short, both the advance warning and the ship's departure timer. These ships will only appear in player territory and not on homeworlds or planets with warp jammers. Small traveler ship: These smaller ships possess less powerful engines, requiring several jumps to pass through the galaxy in a seemingly erratic pattern, probably following whatever medium their engine uses. They do not interfere with anything while they are in a system but when they leave all mobile units on the same planet are teleported to the ship's destination (unless it leaves the galaxy in which case nothing happens). When such a ship appears a timer shows its next destination. Both human and AI ships can ride the coattails of these ships to perform a surprise strike deep into enemy territory. These ships will not travel through home worlds or planets with warp jammers. If they are in a heavily reinforced AI system (the AI only reinforces much near the territory border, right?) the player should probably raid them before they jump somewhere important. Traveler ships only possess minimal weaponry but many million hitpoints, similar to mining golems. Their only threat is the effect of their jumps.

If this were implemented I'd like to see the large and small travelers be separate options. Both are pretty interesting but I especially like the small travelers as they would provide small windows of opportunity that are outside of the players control, which is something I find tactically very appealing as a choice to have. |
