Description | This is another room impassable due to lava. This world was generated and played entirely in 807. I used the cheat menu to purify some chunks (this is a backup of a world where I saw another bug but kept playing, and I was trying to go back and reproduce it). This is the second such area I've seen in this release. 0010712 explains the other. I'm now playing on higher strategic and gameplay difficulty than normal; I had tried to do this in the past, but the game was too difficult (mainly due to deep gates, which have since been considerably nerfed). If the game generates more lava pits at higher difficulties, but the developers and beta testers normally play on the default difficulty, then perhaps this is the reason I'm seeing these impassable lava pits. That suggests an easy fix to these areas: For the 1.0 launch, disable increased lava spawning on higher difficulties; re-enable it in beta updates after the higher difficulty settings have received a little more internal playtesting from the developers (who are probably too busy reading bug reports and coding to actually play the game much right now, judging by the pace of updates), then re-enable it in the main version once beta testers haven't reported any such areas for a while. It wouldn't substantially change the experience for the influx of new players the game will hopefully see once the beta's finished, since most of them will presumably play on Adept/Rook for a while. As an alternative solution, permanently removing the increased lava spawns for higher difficulties wouldn't change the feel of the game very much. It is a stated goal that the focus of the game is combat, not platforming. | ||||

This is sort-of fixed: With the new lava physics in the 900 series, having an occasional lava pool that you must touch to pass no longer makes the level impossible. |
