Summary | 0001064: Holo-decoy Generators
Description | These are ships that project "holo-decoys": Things that look and act just like regular ships, but are of no threat. They simply serve as meat shields to reduce the weight of incoming fire on the real ships. Implementation wise, i imagine that they could be regular ship implementations with the following differences: * They don't show up as a different ship than the real ones of it's kind as far as tooltips, icons, or anything else is concerned (they count as ships for like galaxy map summaries though). * They are unarmed. * They cannot be selected, and follow their spawner's orders (so if you move the spawner, it moves, etc.). * They can be tagged with Tachyon Emitters or something which means they will not be fired at at all while they're tagged. * It's important that no special weight is given towards or against targeting these. The goal is to have few enough constraints on them that you can use most of your ship code with a minimum of rewiring :)

So can the holos be destroyed and what will a holo generator do if that happens? |
Possibly for the future, but the holo/decoy mechanic is too complex for LotS. |
@KDR: Yea, they can, and the holo generator will just spawn a new one. |
I see a high use of forcing all of my ships to attack the ships I want them to. Manual targeting == more micro |
I counter ArcDM's idea with making the holos like decoy drones in that they attract shots within some (small) radius. This would necessitate either a) killing all the holos to get at the holo projector or b) causing the holo projector some damage when a holo dies. |
What about FF bearers? |
What about them? |
When I read "meat shields", they popped up on my mind. That's all |
Well, there are different kinds of meat shields, I don't see an issue with having another one. |
so be like an ship that spawns non-combatant ships that have 60% target prioritize, over normal ships same as spawn when no decoys left. when decoys present 10% chance hit chance, without 100% hit chance. |
i much more favor the idea that collapsing holos damage the generating ship. not like it wouldnt be fragile in the first place. |
Nice thinking motai. Really nice. Inclined in favor if it happens as motai suggests |
I like this idea, something like dummy drones would work great in my oppion. |
Don't Neinzul Scapegoats do this now? |
I like the idea but... I worry about the lag it could generate in a high ship count scenario when what it does is imitated by shield bearer/prot starship already, without adding another swarm to the grid. Radiant.. neinzul scapegoats take the deathblow in another ship's stead so... kinda? :) |
