Summary | 0029338: Hacking attempt difficult to distinguish from regular attack
Description | Load the attached save and select the Raven. Mouse over the three nearby mechs - the game gives you the standard "here's what will happen if you attack" display, which works great. Enable hacking mode on the Raven, and mouse over the three mechs again. On all three mechs, the display is exactly the same as with the standard attack, minus the tooltip that shows how much damage you will deal. * It doesn't differentiate between a hack attempt that will succeed and one that will fail. In reality, trying to hack the Panther will fail due to its high hacking resistance and will result in a regular attack instead. Trying to hack the distant Machinist will also fail, presumably due to the target being out of range. Both failures will, extremely inconveniently, result in the Raven running up to the mech and punching it. * It indicates that the Raven will move to the target (since it has no equipped weapon and is using fists). In reality, hacking the nearest Machinist does NOT move the Raven. This is filed as "suggestion" because I wanted to suggest what the player should see when mousing over a target while in hacking mode. * If the target can be hacked, show a preview of the result - a popup with some info on the hacking attempt, and target lines to show which enemy units will begin attacking either the hacker or the converted unit. * If the target cannot be hacked, indicate why not: Hacking resistance too high, target out of range, not a viable target for hacking, or whatever. * Upon right-clicking a target that can't be hacked, nothing happens. The game doesn't default to a regular attack or a move or anything, just like when you try to attack a target that's outside your movement range.

Thanks! * When your unit is going to hack another unit, the line that is drawn is now a green hacking-style color rather than being the orange attack color, to make it more clear you're definitely hacking rather than attacking. And then the second thing was a large semi-related topic, so I split it into a different ticket. |
