Summary | 0026680: New mode for "Draw Ship Models": "Skip Overlapped By Icon"
Description | Quite often the unit icons are so big that on most zoom levels they overlap ship models completely (or something sticks a little bit out). This will probably never be the case for the biggest models. If it's not gonna be too much work, can we get an additional, smarter model drawing mode that skips drawing models based on (cached) ratio between icon size and current zoom level? All it needs to do is: on "zoomed out enough" the game hides drones, if even more - then hides strikecrafts, then frigates, etc., and on zooming in these will start appearing back to please our eyes.

It's possible that a modder might be able to take that up, but it's quite a lot of math to figure something like that out unfortunately. There's a large amount of processing that might be involved in that in general. There's already some modes for turning off icons, or turning off icons once you get to X zoom level, and some modes that show a ring for faction allegiance, etc, around the units instead of just the icon. |
