The original intent was to put a clear timer on the player, and if you started hacking too late it just wouldn't work (though as of 3.802 enemies won't claim debris you've started hacking). If there's significant will to make this change it is possible though. |

That....was actually one of my bigger annoyances while playing. Is the timer is kind of a huge lie. At 59 seconds, or even 60, it's a waste of time. And the idea that it's a clear timer, is frankly untrue considering the whole, it's actually until you have 60 seconds left on the clock to start the timer kind of deal. Which actually reminds me of the first time I got there after the 60 seconds thinking I had just barely made it. And that was a complete lie. I just kinda accepted it though, like I do with how math works. |

I think it's just as unclear the other way personally. I totally understand the objection, but if it allows you just start the hack before the timer stops - that just feels equally bad in the other direction because you're going past what the timer says.
Other than adding more words to the mouseover which many players aren't going to read (not being insulting just a statement of reality), I don't have a good idea on how to change this. If the hack is made instantaneous it's kind of pointless, and if it's not instantaneous then there is a potential timer issue one way or the other. |

How would it be if the following was true: "If you start the hack, you will be allowed to complete it successfully. But you can't start the hack with < 60 seconds left" |

that is basically what we have now. honestly the missing piece is that you aren't warned of how long the hack will be if you haven't played before because you cant see the hack till you get in system. and given the timers get ALOT shorter as you continue it would seem more fair to give the a correct start it before this time value. |
the odd thought is generate the timer (add 60 seconds or not) and display it as 60 second shorter for a start it timer and let it complete before the end of actual timer to bad effects? |
"you aren't warned of how long the hack will be if you haven't played before because you cant see the hack till you get in system". This is incorrect. If you go into a system and open the hacking menu, the hacking menu will tell you that it takes 60 seconds. |
yes once you get there. if you are in a system without the object in question you cant see the time |
Sure, but the point is that this information is easily accessible to the player. |
I'm going to be making some UI changes to clarify things and hopefully make them less frustrating |

In the next patch the timer will pause while hacking a spire debris, so there won't be anymore the issue of hacking it when the timer is <60s. |
