Summary | 0009490: Neinzul Fyrant Mine
Description | New mine type, pun on fire ants. These are placed static defenses like normal mines, with a twist. Instead of exploding the Fyrant Mine releases swarms of Neinzul Youngling Fyrants, maybe 8 per detonation. Same detonation cooldown as mines, 2 seconds. The Fyrants shoot flame waves and do about 6500 dps each (about 13k every 2 seconds) with no special modifiers. They also have a very fast attrition time, perhaps around 4~8 seconds (Enough to fire 2~4 times) and very little health. (They are mines after all) They have about the same damage as a mine, that is. The difference is the Fyrants can be destroyed, but if they are not destroyed they can do a lot more damage than the burst from the mine itself, moreover they can pursue and fire upon ships with mine immunity assuming another unit set them off. A 5 pack of these around a wormhole can bring in a rather sizable swarm if the AI sits in them for any reasonable period of time. If they fire once they're doing half the damage of a mine, they fire twice they're par. Pros: They draw some initial fire sometimes, and at full power are basically the same as mines. There is some overlap between their self attrition time and the delay between mine explosion so the damage does ramp up higher than regular mines. Very slow firing ships or ships that ignore the fyrants might take 50~80% more damage than a regular mine. Cons: Will only get one salvo off against a large fleet ball, doing only half the damage of a regular mine. Should probably use Area Mines in that case. AI: Neinzul related AI plots should be able to use these in lieu of normal mines occasionally.
