Summary | 0009449: "Pause All Constructors" should not affect modules
Description | This "bug" has been around for a long time, but it's never been more glaring than it is now. In other words, by using the "Pause All Constructors" option in CTRLS, I'm trying to stop my production line to save some resources right? However, I highly doubt the intended use for this mechanic is to make all your Riot Control Starships, Champions, Modular Fortresses, etc. stop building weapons and shields. In other words, considering the almost non-existent price of individual modules, and considering the importance that they always keep being rebuilt, I think modules should be exempt from the "Pause All Constructors" Option. Please fix.

Some modules have noticeable m+c costs, especially for situations like I_need_to_repair_my_home_forcefield_NOW, which are when you use the toggle in the first place. |
That's not what I would use it for. In fact that doesn't even make much sense. The home force field is fairly inexpensive to repair. If you were low enough on resources that repairing that took any significant amount of time, it would probably be early game, and if you're still only on 1 or 2 planets, why not just turn off your production manually. The CTRL is much better once you've established a huge base with things constructing everywhere, and you're trying to save resources for something important but don't want to have to go to every planet and figure out what's being built. It seems to me at least that the pittance cost of replacing modules should not be included in this mechanic, especially considering the importance that they are constantly being rebuilt. And aren't the Champion modules free? I think that destroys your argument right there. |
The champion modules I can see not being affected by this, other modules have significant cost though. Fortress and the Spire Modules come to mind, especially at higher marks. |
@Wingflier No, a single counterexample does not destroy an argument with "some." Also, the toggle says pause ALL constructors, not pause most constructers. I could get behind a subsidiary node that exempts modules, but I would leave this toggle as is. Though I agree that champion modules should be exempt, as they are free. Just not all modules. |
How about things are truly free (0 build time, 0 resource cost, 0 energy) are still allowed to be worked on, but everything else should be paused. How about making it customizable, like the auto-assist cutoff is? Like a new option such that if the m+c cost <= value given, it could still build even if constructors are globally paused. This would imply that if this value is set to 0, only absolutely free stuff would be allowed to build (right now, only the champion modules). 0 should be the default for this new value. |
Why make this a cut-off? This is not a economy management function, this is a "stop everything else so I can crash built this unit" function. This function should stop everything that consumes resources, except for metal converters. |
I really don't want to get into semantics here. The point is that if I need to stop my production queues to save resources, I obviously don't want my Champions or Riot Control Starships to suddenly stop being productive in battle. I really don't care how we fix this, it just needs to be fixed (imo). |
Okay, we are looking at this differently. To me, this is a "I just lost my energy collector, I need to crash build it *now* to get my FFs back up" so I want the modules on Riot Control SS to stop building. ALL resources are to go to rebuilding the collector. You are looking for a "Pause Fabricators" button so only units being built in friendly territory get paused. Champion modules are free so should not be affected either way however. I suppose it's now a "what's this function supposed to do" question. (And we all love those. :p ) D. |
