Summary | 0009365: unscramble
Description | Maybe a cheat can be added that will unscramble the galaxy as best as possible. When I play high planet games, I have a really hard time trying to figure out what goes where with all the criss-crossing. I can handle moving maybe 40 planets or something but trying to unscramble 120 is a HUGE pain.

I think unscrambling is a very hard problem computationally --- but if not, surely the map should be as unscrambled as possible by default? |
I think they've said several times there'd be no untangling of maps. I would be all for it, but it's not the easiest to do computationally (and sometimes impossible to completely untangle it). |
The devs have said in the past that this is about as good as we are going to get. The more complex maps simply can't be untangled, the wormholes simply overlap no matter how you lay them out. And as a computer, there is no such thing as "good enough" (at least without getting into some pretty esoteric programming we are not going to see the Arcen Guys doing). Therefore because 'untangled' is not possible we are stuck with what we get as it is. One trick is when on the galaxy map, mouse-over a planet and hold shift, all the warp connections to that planet will light up. I play lattice and I find that to be very handy. |
i can understand doing that for games with few planets, but i usually play with 80+ and doing that for each game is annoying. But they could generate the snake or the vines, tree etc. map without any intersections |
Yes, I would love if they could generate some of the simpler map types without intersections. But that is technically a different request, and should be put into a different mantis issue. |
I did a few days ago, but no one really commented on it so i think they are not really looking into it. If you search for "snake map redo" it should come up |
THis one comes up a lot, there are a couple dupes of this in here somewhere. Simply put, if this would be at all possible, it's not easy. |
