Summary | 0009296: AI Type - The Bastion
Description | The AI only seeds and has control of about half of the planets it would normally. All neutral stuff (Dyson Golems, Broken Golems, Spire asteroids, etc) that would spawn on this AI's planets all spawn on the unclaimed ones, and the AI gets everything it normally would get put on the half planets. Alternately, could be a different game mode.

Interesting, but would cause all kinds of issues with alert logic. Plus, do you really want to have player allied dysons rampaging around from the beginning? |
Yes, yes I do :D And break alert logic how? I imagine it would be similar to going out and blasting through a ton of AI planets to make them neutral. The AI might have to start with CPAs, or just force the planets next to the player to be generated, but yeah. |
The AI border planets would be permanently on alert. |
Well it *is* a bastion... |
Just pointing it out ;) |
That could easily be a feature of the map style Cinth. It would encourage players to expand rapidly with the jammer posts to remove the on alert. And that in itself would become a management game of trying to hold on to your stuff and trying to keep the bastion ai from overbuilding. |

A slight tweak that might make this work without messing up alert mechanics - instead of being unclaimed, half the AI's worlds only have "outposts" - a command center (and the usual ships guarding it) but no warp gates or guard posts (including wormhole guard posts); additionally, the command center never gets any "special features" like AI Eyes, Ion Cannons, etc. I think that would make for an interesting AI type - many planets are practically undefended, but the rest are incredibly fortified. Oh! Another possible tweak: The "bastion" worlds could have indestructible command centers, making them completely uncapturable (for added evil, make the warp gates invincible, too). You'd have to avoid seeding capturables on them, but an AI that has 50/50 really easy to take and totally impossible to take planets might be interesting. |
I like Max's suggestion! As an another^2 possible tweak: the invincible stations don't provide supply. Only the smaller destroyable ones do, and the invincibility is lost if out of supply. |

There's so much delicious in this thread I don't even know where to begin. Keith, deliver something appropriately evil! :D |
