Summary | 0000849: IP Addresses: whatismyip.org
Description | If AI War were to just hit http://www.whatismyip.org the only thing the server returns is the outside IP address. It's completely raw, not even HTML tags to make it a valid page. Its much cleaner than http://whatismyipaddress.com/ and the game could simply pull the page down itself and display the result in the UI. Anyway, low priority, I just noticed that you guys linked to the one webpage and I'd always used the other and noticed that it didn't return a valid HTML page, just the IP address in plaintext.

Could be cool to do, when we have time. However, not that specific service, because 1) it seems to be down at the moment, and 2) most services don't appreciate it when some random commercial application starts using up their bandwidth. ;) But, we could do something similar with our own web hosting, actually, when we have time. |

I figured that service would be perfect, as the only thing they return is the IP address, not even an <html> tag around it, which seems to me that they're offering the service expecting that applications do plug into it. But hey, I see where you're coming from. |
