Summary | 0008461: More immersive loading screen
Description | A loading screen (the screen that is displayed between map transitions) that is less disruptive / more immersive, would be much appreciated. Currently there is a countdown of files needing to be loaded from disk on there, which isn't very immersive at all. Possible suggestions are: - a snapshot of the world type the player is running around in - an animated screen, somehow signifying the map transition - leaving the image of the previous world/chunk on-screen until the new bit has loaded (adding an effect to show something is going on, like a blurring effect or a fade) - a black screen - different text, something that is more in line with the game's theme - the appropriate (dungeon/field/room) map type used as a progress bar (edited 8/8/2012): - a thing of personal taste but nevertheless: hiding the cursor during the chunk to chunk loading screens is something I would appreciate very much. It's the little things that make the big picture...

May I add another suggestion to the mix? -Keep the same text, but make it smaller, a less bright color (like a "greyish white"), and shove it to a corner |
|
if I could add an idea to this of my own, they could leave the current menu screen active until the world data has loaded, and put a message along with a little progress bar along the bottom of the screen, and have the message "Loading World Data" that way the user gets the idea that something is happening but as the original poster said, it stays more in line with the game. |

Agree to keeping the text. I'd prefer a loading screen rather than using the existing menu, since that way it's a lot more clearly visible something is happening. That way, a visual % complete indicator could be used as well; at the simplest, having your player character run across the screen (with the left hand being 0% and the right 100%). |

"You have my axe!" |

If anything the representation should be fairly...desolate. Cold, empty, calm. It would fit the theme perfectly. It would vary by time shard, in the sense that something in the deep will be drastically different than a deciduous forest. To be honest though, I almost never see loading screens for longer than 2 seconds at most. I think a flash of anything would almost be disruptive in a sense. |
